Effect of Pilates based exercises for improving pain and physical function in symptomatic knee osteoarthritis –a randomized controlled clinical trial

Background and Objective: Osteoarthritis (OA) a common wear tear pathology of joints occurring among females. There is need exercises regimen known to be the most appropriate conventional treatment that stop progression degeneration. Pilates based are recommended for reduction pain strengthen peripheral muscles. The Objective was determine effects on physical function in women with knee OA.
 Methodology: This randomized clinical trial conducted 40 female patients OA grade II III, selected randomly divided into two groups. After baseline evaluation using WOMAC scale, both groups received interventions 8 weeks, 3 times per week each session lasting an hour. Statistical analysis variance independent sample t test significance at p < 0.1 were used.
 Results: In study, 20 females group mean age 57.60 ± 6.34 isometrics 55.65 7.28. results showed differed significantly over time period weeks significant improvement function; 0.1. When comparing isometrics, better terms 0.1.
